Carrier Rebates, Explained
Carrier runs multiple consumer promotion periods throughout the year, offering instant rebates on qualifying HVAC equipment. If you’re considering a new system, understanding how these rebates work — and how to layer them with utility programs — can meaningfully reduce your total installation cost.
This guide explains the structure of Carrier’s rebate programs, which system configurations qualify for the highest savings, and how Bay Area homeowners can combine manufacturer incentives with PG&E and local utility programs.
How Carrier Manufacturer Rebates Are Structured
Carrier’s seasonal promotions follow a consistent structure that rewards complete system purchases at the Infinity tier, with progressively smaller rebates for Performance tier, individual units, and accessories.
Complete Infinity systems — pairing an outdoor heat pump or AC with a matching furnace or fan coil and the Infinity System Control thermostat — qualify for the highest rebate amounts. Adding qualifying accessories like zoning panels and smart sensors can stack additional savings on top.
Performance systems are the mid-tier. A qualifying Performance heat pump or AC bundled with a compatible furnace and ecobee thermostat typically qualifies for a meaningful but smaller rebate than Infinity.
Individual units — buying just an outdoor unit, just a furnace, or just indoor mini-split components — qualify for their own unit-level rebates, which are smaller than complete system rebates but still worth claiming.
Controls and accessories — Infinity System Controls, zoning panels, and smart sensors each carry their own rebate that stacks on top of the system rebate. This is how the total can reach the highest advertised tier.
The key rule: rebates are only available through authorized Carrier dealers. Bay Area Climate Control is an authorized dealer and applies manufacturer rebates directly at the time of installation — you don’t need to file anything separately.
Infinity vs. Performance vs. Comfort: Which Qualifies for More
The rebate tier is one reason (among many) why system tier matters for Bay Area homeowners:
| Tier | Compressor Type | SEER2 | Typical Rebate Tier | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Infinity | Variable speed | 20–26+ | Highest | High AC use, humidity control, max efficiency |
| Performance | Two stage | 17–19 | Mid | Most Bay Area homeowners |
| Comfort | Single stage | 15.2–16 | Lowest | Budget, low-use situations |
For most Bay Area homeowners using AC regularly from May through October, the Infinity tier’s combination of higher rebate, superior efficiency, and dramatically better humidity control makes it worth serious consideration. The upfront premium over Performance narrows considerably once manufacturer rebates are factored in.
Stacking Manufacturer Rebates With Utility Programs
This is where Bay Area homeowners have a significant advantage. Carrier manufacturer rebates and utility incentives are entirely separate and stack directly on top of each other.
PG&E Rebates: PG&E offers rebates on qualifying high-efficiency heat pump and AC systems through their Energy Upgrade California and related programs. These are paid out separately from manufacturer rebates and require a separate application, but they combine fully.
TECH Clean California: For income-qualifying Bay Area households replacing gas heating with a heat pump, TECH Clean California offers substantial incentives. This program is separate from both manufacturer rebates and PG&E rebates, and all three can be combined.
Local utility programs: Several Bay Area cities and community choice energy programs (including SVCE, MCE, and others) offer their own heat pump incentives that layer on top of state and federal programs.
Federal Tax Credit (25C): Qualifying heat pump systems are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act, up to $2,000 per year. This is separate from all rebate programs above.
Example: How Savings Stack on an Infinity Heat Pump System
| Incentive | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer rebate | Carrier (via your dealer) | Applied at installation |
| PG&E heat pump rebate | PG&E | Separate application |
| Federal 25C tax credit | IRS | 30%, up to $2,000/year |
| TECH Clean CA (if income-qualifying) | State program | Up to several thousand |
The total picture varies significantly by installation type, system tier, and income qualification — which is why getting a detailed estimate that maps out all applicable incentives matters.
How to Maximize Your Rebates
1. Buy a complete system, not just components. Complete system rebates (outdoor + indoor/furnace + thermostat) are always higher than the sum of individual unit rebates bought separately. Plan a full system replacement rather than patching individual components if your system is aging.
2. Include the qualifying thermostat. Both Infinity (Infinity System Control) and Performance (ecobee by Carrier) tiers require the matching thermostat to unlock the full system rebate. This is a step that’s easy to overlook when comparing quotes.
3. Ask about current promotion timing. Carrier’s seasonal promotions have defined windows, and some models carry limited inventory during high-demand periods. Ask your dealer which promotion is currently active and whether any models you’re considering are subject to availability limitations.
4. Apply for utility rebates promptly. PG&E and local utility rebates often have funding caps that can exhaust during busy installation seasons. Submit applications as soon as your installation is complete.
5. Check your federal tax credit eligibility. The 25C credit requires the installed system to meet efficiency thresholds. Your authorized Carrier dealer can confirm whether the system being installed qualifies.
